Davy Klaassen is named as Eredivisie Player of the Month in April. In the last four rounds, the Ajax midfielder was the best-performing player according to the statistics and football fans’ votes.
Klaassen is back in the starting line-up
Davy Klaassen does not look set to give up his hard-won starting spot without a fight. Antony's injury shifted Steven Berghuis to the right flank and Davy Klaassen found himself back in the starting line-up in April. The 29-year-old midfielder let his feet do the talking in the matches against FC Groningen (1-3), Sparta Rotterdam (2-1), N.E.C. Nijmegen (0-1) and PEC Zwolle (3-0); Klaassen scored four goals to make him the top scorer of the month in April.
Davy Klaassen scored four times from nine shots in April. Against PEC Zwolle, he even scored on both his attempts. He also scored from outside the penalty area in this match for the first time since 18 December 2016 (then against PSV). In April, Klaassen also had 22 ball touches in the opponent's penalty area, 23 ball recoveries, a pass accuracy of 82% and two selections as KPN Man of the Match.
Second Eredivisie Player of the Month award
Davy Klaassen is the first Ajax player to win the Eredivisie Player of the Month award this season. For Klaassen himself, it is his second monthly award, having previously won the trophy in November 2020. In addition to the prize, the 32-time international also receives an upgraded Eredivisie Player of the Month card in FIFA 22.

These elements - along with votes from the 18 captains and 18 coaches - also count towards the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year Awards, which are presented during the Eredivisie Awards at the end of the season 2021/22.
