16 current and 48 former Eredivisie players in action at EURO 2024

On Friday, June 14, the European Championship in Germany officially kicks off. With 24 countries divided into six groups, at least one match will be played every day for the next thirteen days. The final will take place a month later on Sunday, July 14. From the Eredivisie, 16 players are participating in Euro 2024, while 48 players have previously played in the Eredivisie.

Current Eredivisie players

Among the current Eredivisie players (2023/24 season), Feyenoord leads with seven players at the EURO 2024. Ajax follows with six players, and PSV has three. Initially, FC Twente midfielder Michal Sadílek was also set to participate with the Czech Republic, but an unfortunate fall from a tricycle has ruled him out.

In the Dutch national team, the most Eredivisie players (6) are logically present: Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey (both Ajax), Justin Bijlow, Lutsharel Gertruida (both Feyenoord), Jerdy Schouten, and Joey Veerman (both PSV) represent the Dutch colors.

Additionally, PSV's Johan Bakayoko (Belgium), Ajax's Georges Mikautadze (Georgia), Josip Šutalo (Croatia), Borna Sosa (Croatia), Ahmetcan Kaplan (Turkey), and Feyenoord's Luka Ivanušec (Croatia), Gernot Trauner (Austria), Dávid Hancko (Slovakia), Leo Sauer (Slovakia), and Ondřej Lingr (Czech Republic) are also participating in the European Championship in Germany. Georges Mikautadze only played for Ajax in the first half of the season due to his loan move to FC Metz during the winter break.

Former Eredivisie players

A total of 48 former Eredivisie players will be in action at the European Championship, all of whom have played at least one Eredivisie match. Slovenian Vanja Drkušić (under contract with SC Heerenveen in the 2018-19 season) and Slovak Stanislav Lobotka (under contract with Ajax in the 2013-14 season, only playing for Jong Ajax) are not included, as neither made any appearances in the Eredivisie.

The Dutch national team also features the most former Eredivisie players (13). Initially, there were fifteen, but both Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners withdrew last week due to injuries. Their replacements, Ian Maatsen (Borussia Dortmund) and Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna), did not play in the Eredivisie, nor did Mark Flekken, Nathan Aké, Jeremie Frimpong, Micky van de Ven (only in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie), and Bart Verbruggen (only in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie).

After the Netherlands, most players are active for Denmark (6), featuring notable players such as Dolberg, Eriksen, and Andersen. Former PSV player Mathias Jørgensen joined the Danish squad just this week. Additionally, the teams of Austria (4), Serbia (4), Belgium (3), and Slovakia (3) also include many players with an Eredivisie background.
