Million Manhoef is the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month for May
Million Manhoef is one of the revelations of the Eredivisie this season. The 21-year-old forward, recently named Vitesse Player of the Year by the Arnhem club's supporters' association, was directly involved in six goals in the month of May. It helped ensure that, based on statistics and votes from football fans, Manhoef was the best performer of all players aged 21 or younger at the start of the competition.
Manhoef was important in both the victories over SC Cambuur (2-0) and Feyenoord (0-1) with an assist. However, his best game of the season was at the GelreDome against FC Groningen: with a hat-trick as well as an assist, the young exponent shot Vitesse to a big win (6-0). Besides his goals, Manhoef achieved 13 created chances, 10 shots, 26 dribbles and being selected as KPN Man of the Match twice.
In addition to the prize, the forward will receive a cheque for €2,500 on behalf of the VriendenLoterij (Friends Lottery) for his former amateur club VPV Purmersteijn. His selection also raised €5,000 for Johan Cruyff Foundation projects.
Eredivisie Awards
The Eredivisie Player of the Month and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month Awards are based on statistics (StatsPerform) and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These components also weigh for the shortlisting of the awards for Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. Ultimately, the 18 captains (via the players' union VVCS) and the 18 trainers (via Coaches Professional Football) decide the two winners. These awards, like those in the Azerion Women's Eredivisie, will be presented on 4 September 2023 during the Eredivisie Awards on ESPN.
