SC Heerenveen come back to draw vs 10-man PSV

SC Heerenveen came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven on Saturday (17th February) in Eindhoven.

PSV Eindhoven were seven minutes away from winning their 24th home game in a row before Iranian striker Reza Ghoochannejhad stole an equaliser for mid-table Heerenveen.

PSV had been enjoying almost total dominance with a 2-0 lead before the referee decided to show a red card to Hirving Lozano in the 45th minute. The 2-2 draw means Phillip Cocu's side are now just seven points clear of second place Ajax who play PSC Zwolle on Sunday.

Coming into the game Heerenveen had conceded more goals than any other side in the league's top half, and there was some more poor defending at the Philips Stadion.

First Santiago Arias was allowed to jump unchallenged to meet a Hirving Lozano corner before placing his header wide of goalkeeper Martin Hansen. PSV 1-0 up after 34 minutes, and they were two clear just before half-time.

Seventeen-year-old Kik Pierie showed his naivety by trying to control the ball in his own area instead of clearing it. The loose ball fell to Luuk de Jong who shaped to put it left of Hansen, but cleverly dragged it right. It was the Dutch international's 10th goal of the season.

But the visitors were given a lifeline just on the stroke of half-time when the referee showed Lozano a straight red for his high arm on Lucas Woudenberg. Replays showed that the Mexican was treated harshly.

It took eleven second half minutes for Heerenveen to exploit their advantage - midfielder Stijn Schaars showing great technique with his long-range half volley from a corner.

And the visitors finally got their second after constant pressure - Morten Thorsby got behind the PSV defence and his cross found Ghoochannejhad whose header went straight up into the air, and he was the first to react, slotting it past keeper Jeroen Zoet.

Two-two the final score, although Heerenveen owe a debt to their goalkeeper Hansen, who made a sensational save from a de Jong header in the 84th minute. Heerenveen stay in ninth place but are level on points with eighth placed ADO Den Haag.
