Matchday calendar eredivisie football season 2024/’25 determined

The matchday calendar for professional football for the 2024/’25 season has been determined by the professional football competition board. Both the Eredivisie and the Keuken Kampioen Divisie (First Division) will start on the weekend of Friday, August 9, to Sunday, August 11, 2024. A week earlier, the match for the Johan Cruyff Shield is scheduled. The last match of the 2024/’25 season is set for Sunday, June 1, 2025.

The matchday calendar was established after intensive consultations between the professional football competition board (The Royal Dutch Football Association, Eredivisie CV and Coöperation First Division) and other stakeholders, including clubs, local authorities, police, ESPN, and the Supporters Union (Supporterscollectief Nederland).

"The key to the match calendar for the 2024/’25 season lies in the new format of UEFA's club tournaments," said Jan Bluyssen, competition manager professional football at the Dutch Football Association. "Due to this new format, there are four fewer midweek match moments for Dutch professional football than in the current season. To find additional moments for rescheduled matches, several solutions were discussed. Round 33 will be played midweek, creating an earlier midweek round in the season. Additionally, the semi-final of the TOTO KNVB Cup will be held on the weekend of February 22 and 23, providing extra space in the following week. With the existing availability on April 1, 2, and 3, 2025, and possibly during the weekend of the TOTO KNVB Cup, this solution has no impact on the start of the season, the winter break, and the playoffs. We are confident that the league can be completed successfully with this approach."

Johan Cruyff Shield

The match between the national champion and the TOTO KNVB Cup winner is scheduled for either Friday, August 2, or Sunday, August 4. The exact date will depend on the European commitments of the participants in the Johan Cruyff Shield.

The TOTO KNVB Cup for professional football clubs begins in the week of Tuesday, October 29, to Thursday, October 31. The clubs that qualify for European football in the 2023/’24 season are exempt from the first round and enter in the second round (Tuesday, December 17, to Thursday, December 19). The final of the TOTO KNVB Cup will be played on Monday, April 21 (Easter Monday), at De Kuip.

Winter break and end of the competitions

The winter break for both the Eredivisie and the Keuken Kampioen Divisie begins on Tuesday, December 24, and lasts until Thursday, January 9. The last two matchdays in the Eredivisie are scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, and Sunday, May 18, while the last two matchdays in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie are set for Friday, May 2, and Friday, May 9.

Playoffs

The playoffs for a European ticket and the promotion and relegation playoffs are primarily held in May. The playoffs for a European ticket begin on Thursday, May 22, and end on Sunday, May 25. The promotion and relegation playoffs start on Monday, May 12, and conclude on Sunday, June 1.

Competition schedule

In June, the final competition schedule will be announced. The creation of this schedule, including specific matches and kick-off times, involves coordination between the professional football competition board, the clubs, supporters, local authorities, and ESPN.
