On Saturday, April 19, the Rijksmuseum will serve as the stage for the ultimate Dutch esports event. In the gallery of the Netherlands' most famous museum, the top four clubs from the KPN eDivisie will compete for the national championship. This unique fusion of sports and culture brings together the legends of the past and today’s esports heroes.

Esports Players Battle for Championship Under ‘The Night Watch’
Official National Championship
The competition day kicks off on Saturday, April 19, with the quarterfinals in Zeist. Esports players from Ajax, AZ, Almere City, Feyenoord, FC Twente, FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, and Willem II will battle it out. From these eight clubs, four will advance to the semifinals, where the two finalists will be determined. The semifinals and the grand final will take place in the Rijksmuseum, surrounded by historical masterpieces.
Much is at stake. The conclusion of the eighth season of the KPN eDivisie will determine who will be crowned the official national champion for the year. Additionally, teams will compete for qualification for major international tournaments. The champion and the runner-up will secure direct qualification for the EA SPORTS FC™️ FC Pro World Championship, while the top four teams will qualify for the prestigious eChampions League.
Merging Sports and Culture
For the first time, the Rijksmuseum will host the finals. Dutch esports masters will compete beneath the paintings of the original Dutch Masters. “We saw a unique opportunity. As a long-time main sponsor of the Rijksmuseum and title sponsor of the KPN eDivisie, we can introduce younger generations to the treasures of the Rijksmuseum while merging sports and culture—all through gaming on the Netherlands’ best network,” said Mark Versteegen, Director of Sponsoring at KPN.
“At perhaps the most beautiful location in the Netherlands, Dutch Masters will meet. The old meets the new. I believe history will be made once again,” said Jan de Jong, Director of Eredivisie. “The digital speed and skill displayed in the battle for the Dutch championship, in a setting of true art, unparalleled beauty, and perfection—I call that Dutch pride,” he continued.
What has brought the Netherlands more global fame than football and paintings? According to De Jong, nothing: “Both are, no matter how you look at it, vital elements of our cultural heritage. And now they come together. This will undoubtedly make headlines around the world.”
KPN eDivisie Awards and Rising Talents
In addition to the final, three awards will be presented in the museum’s gallery in the following categories: Player of the Year, Talent of the Year, Goal of the Year, and an Appreciation Award for a former KPN eDivisie champion to recognize their contributions to the competition.
Before the professional final, the best amateur players in the Netherlands will have the chance to showcase their skills to the eighteen Eredivisie clubs. They will compete for the KPN eDivisie Cup, an event specially organized for emerging gaming talents. The winner of the Cup will receive €2,000 in prize money and a GXTrust Gaming Chair.
Broadcast Worldwide
The championship will be broadcast worldwide so fans can follow the action live. The finals will begin at 20:00. In the Netherlands, the matches will be available on ESPN and via the YouTube and Twitch channels of KPN eDivisie. Internationally, the event can be watched live on the YouTube and Twitch channels of EA SPORTS FC™ Pro.
