Heracles Almelo appoints Erwin van de Looi as the new head coach

Heracles Almelo has appointed Erwin van de Looi (51) as the new head coach. Van de Looi has signed a contract for one and a half seasons, succeeding John Lammers.

"I am happy to be here, and I look forward to getting started," said Van de Looi during his presentation. "I know Heracles Almelo as an energetic team that plays good football and has a strong connection with the fans. That's something I stand for, and I would like to combine it with positive results here."

"With Erwin, we bring in a good coach who is strong in organization with players and staff," said technical director Nico Jan Hoogma. "He has a clear, positive football vision that he can systematically implement within the group. We believe that Erwin can help advance the football development of our team and achieve direct retention in the Eredivisie."

Erwin van de Looi started his coaching career at the highest level in 2013 as the coach of FC Groningen. The coach led Groningen to win the KNVB Cup in 2015, marking the first time in the club's history. After a three-year tenure at FC Groningen, Van de Looi moved to Willem II, where he was in charge from 2016 to 2018. From 2018 until the summer of 2023, Erwin van de Looi coached Jong Oranje.

Erwin van de Looi will lead the training of Heracles Almelo for the first time on Tuesday, January 2. On Wednesday, January 3, the squad will depart for a six-day training camp in Marbella.
