Double prize win for Ajax again: Brobbey and Hlynsson named Eredivisie Player and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month for January

Ajax was the only club to win all its matches in January in the Eredivisie, defeating Go Ahead Eagles (2-3), RKC Waalwijk (4-1), and Heracles Almelo (2-4). Brobbey, with five goals, found the net in every round in 2024 and, along with Luuk de Jong, was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last month.

Brian Brobbey aimed seven of his eleven shots on target, the highest number among all Eredivisie players. The 22-year-old forward also had the most ball contacts in the opponent's penalty area (35) and the second-highest number of chances created from open play (6). Additionally, the striker completed twelve dribbles and was named KPN Man of the Match twice.

For the forward, it's his second selection as Eredivisie Player of the Month. In December, Brobbey was also directly involved in five goals, earning him his first monthly award. Alongside the recognition, the Amsterdammer once again receives an Eredivisie Player of the Month card in the EA SPORTS FC™ 24 game.

Brobbey faced competition in the monthly selection from players such as Luuk de Jong (PSV), Lars Unnerstall (FC Twente), and his teammate Steven Berghuis.

The 20-year-old Kristian Hlynsson has clinched his first individual award in the Eredivisie: among all players aged 21 or younger since the start of the season, he delivered the best performance in January. This achievement earns the Ajax midfielder the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award.

The Icelandic midfielder was directly involved in three goals in January (two goals and one assist), more than any other midfielder. He found the net against both RKC Waalwijk and Heracles Almelo, showcasing his talent. Additionally, Hlynsson recorded the second-highest number of attempts on goal (10) and Expected Assists (1.0) in the Eredivisie.

As part of the prize, the Ajax player receives a €2,500 cheque - on behalf of the VriendenLoterij (FriendsLottery) - for the Ajax Foundation. His selection also generated €5,000 to promote social projects organised by the Cruyff Foundation.

Kristian Hlynsson saw off competition from Shunsuke Mito (Sparta Rotterdam) and Lequincio Zeefuik (FC Volendam) in the monthly selection.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month, Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month and Eredivisie Team of the Month are selected on the basis of statistics (Opta) and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also play a role in establishing the shortlist for the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year awards. These awards, along with the Azerion Women Eredivisie awards, are presented during the Eredivisie Awards ceremony (2 September 2024).
