Dolberg scores in Ajax victory in Eredivisie

Ajax entertained Willem II at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday, looking to stay hot on the heels of PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.

PSV had a perfect record of played 10 won 10, while Ajax started the game five points adrift in second place. Willem II, who began in 13th with 10 points from 10 matches, were caught cold straight from the kick off.

A ball over the top for David Neres saw Willem goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther come out of his area, but lost the ball to the Brazilian. His subsequent shot was blocked by a defender after only 17 seconds.

Kasper Dolberg was more deadly in the 11th minute when he turned in Neres' cross with a first time strike from the edge of the box.

Eleven minutes later Ajax went 2-0 up. Following a throw-in, Hakim Ziyech hit a long cross ball for Dusan Tadic. He laid the ball into the path of Nicolas Tagliafico and his pass was met with another first time strike from just inside the box. Frenkie de Jong was the man on target this time.

The second half was a disappointment with chances few and far between. Ajax substitute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar headed wide in the 59th minute and to sum up a poor night for Willem II, Fran Sol shot wide from close range in the 64th minute.

It was their best opportunity of the game. The match ended 2-0 to Ajax and they remained five points behind PSV who beat Vitesse 1-0.
