Calvin Stengs leaves AZ for OGC Nice

AZ Alkmaar and OGC Nice have reached an agreement for the transfer of Calvin Stengs. The 22-year-old winger will sign a five-year deal with the French club.

A winger capable of playing on either flank, impressive with the ball at feet and equally capable of making the difference in a match, the Dutch international boasts solid experience, despite his young age (22 years old). Experience coupled with huge potential.

Born on 18 December 1998, he came through the ranks at AZ Alkmaar, before getting his first taste of first team football during the 2016-17 season, before he cemented his place in the starting line-up during the 2018-19 season. Since then, Stengs hasn’t stopped kicking on. With AZ Alkmaar, who finished last season’s Eredivise in third place, he has racked up 114 matches (across all competitions) including 78 in the league with 24 goals and 24 assists to his name.

His performances and consistency saw him called up to the Dutch national side, with whom he has played 7 matches. Away from the first team, he is also one of the senior members of the U21s, who beat Les Bleus and were beaten by the eventual winners Germany in the semi-finals.

After a full season (30 league matches, 7 goals, 5 assists), Calvin Stengs chose OGC Nice to continue his development and take on his first challenge away from his motherland.
