AZ breaks through the Ajax stronghold in the Eredivisie Team of the Month
Ajax had the most players in the Eredivisie Team of the Month this season, with five months in a row. Although the Amsterdammers took over the lead from PSV, only right-back Noussair Mazraoui managed to keep his place in the team. AZ has the most players in the Team of the Month in January: Yukinari Sugawara, Sam Beukema and Owen Wijndal. Followed by Feyenoord with two players.
It is remarkable that Vitesse forward Loïs Openda has managed to get a place in the team, despite his red card against FC Groningen after 35 minutes (1-3 loss). The 21-year-old Belgian owes his nomination mainly to his statistically high score in the match against Feyenoord.
