Zara (17) has experienced remarkable growth through Sparta Rotterdam's Rug-Dekking project. After struggling at school, her teacher introduced her to the initiative. Now, she stands proudly as a steward in the stadium, brimming with enthusiasm and significantly improving her communication skills. During the community-focused match between Sparta Rotterdam and NAC Breda, goalkeeper Nick Olij celebrated her achievements.
Rug-Dekking is a 12-week programme designed for young people aged 16-27 who are not in work, education, or training. The initiative combines behavioural intervention, education, and work placements.
Participants earn certifications such as UEFA Sports Steward, Traffic Controller, and First Aid (BHV) and gain practical experience during Sparta Rotterdam’s home matches. The programme also includes sports activities and workshops aimed at fostering personal development.
