Joey Veerman named Player of the Month for December
Joey Veerman has been named Eredivisie Player of the Month for December. The PSV midfielder stood out on the basis of Opta statistics.
Involved in three goals
Joey Veerman enjoyed a strong end to the calendar year with PSV. Following victories over sc Heerenveen (0–2), Heracles Almelo (4–3) and FC Utrecht (1–2), the Eindhoven side finished as winter champions for the third consecutive season.
Veerman was directly involved in at least one goal in each of the three December fixtures. The 27-year-old midfielder found the net against sc Heerenveen and Heracles Almelo and provided the assist for the winning goal against FC Utrecht.
In total, Veerman took four shots, two of which resulted in goals. He also created ten chances during December, committed just two fouls and won two of his three attempted tackles. In addition, he recorded more passes into the attacking third than any other player (88), underlining his influence on PSV’s play.
Fifth long-range goal
Veerman has been one of the standout performers in the league this season. Over the first half of the campaign, he was directly involved in 15 goals (eight goals, seven assists), the second-highest total in the Eredivisie. He has also created 48 chances.
His ability to score from distance has been particularly striking. His goal against Heracles Almelo was already his fifth from outside the penalty area this season. No other player has managed more than two goals from beyond the box.
Although Veerman was linked with a move to Fenerbahçe during the winter window, the midfielder remained loyal to PSV. “There were certain reasons that came into play,” he explained. “In the end, I decided myself not to go.” It is now clear that he will remain in Eindhoven at least until the summer.
Veerman features at the top of many statistical rankings this season.
Third monthly award
For Joey Veerman, this is his third Player of the Month award. The PSV midfielder previously won the honour in November 2023 and August 2024, and succeeds team-mate Guus Til, who was named the league’s best player in November.
