The supporters map: discover the distribution of football fans in the Netherlands
Football fans can be found all across the Netherlands. In fact, all 342 Dutch municipalities are home to football enthusiasts who hold a season ticket for their favorite club, with each municipality having at least eight season ticket holders. In absolute numbers, Rotterdam has the most season ticket holders (9,017), but when looking at the ratio of season ticket holders to residents, Edam-Volendam ranks highest at 7.7%.
KNVB Expertise, the knowledge and innovation center for professional football, collaborated with all 34 professional football clubs (BVOs) to develop a supporters map through research agency Markeffect. This map visualizes the distribution of all season ticket holders of BVOs across the Netherlands. The population per municipality is based on CBS figures from 2023, and the data was collected using the postal codes of season ticket holders.
