Santiago Gimenez named Eredivisie Player of the Month for September
Santiago Gimenez was named Eredivisie Player of the Month on Friday. The Mexican striker from Feyenoord emerged as the best Eredivisie player in the election, based on Opta data and fan votes.
After a sluggish start to the season, Feyenoord Rotterdam had an outstanding month. The team of manager Arne Slot secured big victories against FC Utrecht (1-5), sc Heerenveen (6-1), AFC Ajax (0-4), and Go Ahead Eagles (3-1). Thanks to these wins, the Rotterdam club climbed from sixth place in August to the fourth spot in the standings.
A goal every 41 minutes
The man in top form for Feyenoord is Santiago Gimenez. In September, Gimenez scored seven Eredivisie goals, the highest number for a Feyenoorder in a single calendar month since Dirk Kuyt in February 2005 (also 7 goals). The Mexican international averaged a goal every 41 minutes in four matches. If you add his two assists, Gimenez was involved in a goal or assist every 32 minutes.
Gimenez made history with his three goals in the De Klassieker match; he became the first Feyenoord player to score a hat-trick against Ajax in Amsterdam. In addition to his scoring ability, Gimenez stood out in September for his high number of shots (21), the highest Expected Goals (4.7), and two elections as KPN Man of the Match. After seven rounds of play, Gimenez scored ten Eredivisie goals so far.
First Eredivisie Player of the Month Award for Gimenez
This marks Santiago Gimenez's first Eredivisie Player of the Month award. He is the sixth Feyenoord player to win the monthly prize, although he had previously won the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award in April 2023. In the monthly election, the Mexican narrowly beat out strikers Luuk de Jong (PSV) and Vangelis Pavlidis (AZ). In addition to the trophy, the Mexican international also receives the first EA SPORTS FC™ 24 Eredivisie Player of the Month card of the season.
The award was presented by ESPN presenter Milan van Dongen.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month, Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month, and the Eredivisie Team of the Month are selected based on statistics (Opta) and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also play a role in the shortlist for the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year awards. These awards, along with those in the Azerion Women's Eredivisie, are presented each season at the Eredivisie Awards.
