Sam Lammers named April's Eredivisie Player of the Month

FC Utrecht is enjoying an excellent season. Wins against PEC Zwolle (5-1), sc Heerenveen (2-3), Go Ahead Eagles (2-1), and a draw against RKC Waalwijk (2-2) have placed the Utrecht team in seventh place. Participation in the playoffs has been secured, but the fifth spot, which grants entry to the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, is still within reach.

Without a doubt, 27-year-old Sam Lammers has proven to be the golden opportunity the Utrecht club had hoped for in January. The loanee from Rangers FC is in excellent form and has been consistently scoring goals for weeks. In April, the forward found the net in every game (5 goals), breaking a decades-old record (1984): he's become the first FC Utrecht player to score in seven consecutive matches. Additionally, he's been selected as the KPN Man of the Match twice in the past four games.

Since his return on January 14th, Lammers has contributed nine goals and three assists in fifteen Eredivisie matches. The striker has become a vital cog in coach Ron Jans' lineup. This season at FC Utrecht, he leads in goals (9), attempts on goal (50), Expected Goals (7.9), and touches in the opponent's box (89), despite playing in less than half of the matches (15).

For Sam Lammers, this is his first selection as Eredivisie Player of the Month. In the monthly voting, he narrowly edged out a few PSV players, including Luuk de Jong, Malik Tillman, and Johan Bakayoko.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month, Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month and Eredivisie Team of the Month are selected on the basis of statistics (Opta) and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also play a role in establishing the shortlist for the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year awards. These awards, along with the Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie awards, will be presented during the Eredivisie Awards ceremony (2 September 2024).
