Rob (78) attends his final-ever match at Heracles Almelo

Rob (78) has been a supporter of Heracles Almelo for more than seventy years. Football is deeply rooted in his life: he grew up in Almelo, spent years going to the stadium with his father and brothers, and experienced countless unforgettable afternoons there. Rob was recently diagnosed with vascular dementia, a condition he had known about up close and had always feared.

Precisely because his memory is beginning to fail him more often, Rob’s memories of the stadium have become priceless. That’s why he expressed one final, heartfelt wish: to experience one last match of his beloved club. To feel the atmosphere once more, see the pitch, and for a moment feel part of what has always meant so much to him. Thanks to the efforts of his nephew Benny, the Heracles Foundation and the VriendenLoterij, that wish became reality.

Football Gives

Together with the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie and the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the VriendenLoterij works every day to make a positive contribution to society. By striving for a healthier, more inclusive and stronger community, football shows the impact it can have beyond the pitch. The video series ‘Football Gives’ highlights the social impact of the clubs and shows what that commitment can mean for an individual.
