Record holder: Joey Veerman named Player of the Month for the fourth time

With Joey Veerman once again among the standout performers, PSV are firmly on course for a 27th league title in the club’s history. In January, the Eindhoven side further extended their lead over the chasing pack with victories against Excelsior Rotterdam (5–1), Fortuna Sittard (1–2) and Feyenoord (3–0). Although PSV conceded a late equaliser against NAC Breda (2–2), their lead after 21 matchdays has already grown to seventeen points over runners-up Feyenoord.

In January, Joey Veerman recorded four assists across four matches, the joint-highest tally of the month alongside Rayane Bounida (Ajax). The 27-year-old midfielder has now been directly involved in 19 goals this season (eight goals and eleven assists). Only in the successful 2023/24 campaign was Veerman involved in more goals (21), and with thirteen matches still to play, matching or surpassing that total looks only a matter of time given his current form.

Beyond his assists, Veerman also topped several statistical charts in January. He created the most chances (22) and the most chances from open play (12), played the highest number of passes into the final third (63), and delivered the most crosses (44), fourteen of which found a teammate. In addition, the playmaker recorded a pass accuracy of 85 percent.

This marks Joey Veerman’s fourth Player of the Month award. The PSV midfielder previously won the prize in November 2023, August 2024 and December 2025. In the nine-year history of the award, a total of eighty monthly prizes have been handed out. With four wins, Veerman is now the outright record holder.

The Player of the Month and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month awards are based on Opta statistics, taking into account more than sixty different metrics. These figures also play a role in determining the Player of the Year and the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year in the Eredivisie. The awards are presented at the end of the season during the Eredivisie Awards.
