PSV clinches the Dutch championship for the 25th time. With the victory over Sparta Rotterdam, PSV officially secures the title. The Eindhoven team can now call themselves champions of the Netherlands for the first time since 2017/'18 and have demonstrated why this season.
Champions again after six seasons
It had been six seasons since PSV last became champions of the Netherlands. Only in 1963-1975 (twelve seasons), 1978-1986 (eight seasons), and 2008-2015 (seven seasons) was the gap between two PSV titles in the Eredivisie greater. Of all the PSV players who played in the Eredivisie this season, Luuk de Jong, Hirving Lozano, Mauro Júnior, and Armando Obispo also played in the previous championship season of the Eindhoven team (2017/'18).
Impressively attacking
From matchday 1, PSV dominated their opponents, partly due to the tactics of coach Peter Bosz. The first 17 matches of the season were convincingly won, making them only the second team ever to win the first seventeen Eredivisie matches of a season. PSV achieved the same feat in 1987/88, under the guidance of Guus Hiddink (also 17 matches). A 1-1 draw at FC Utrecht in matchday 18 prevented PSV from achieving a unique feat in the national league.
Especially in attack, PSV has been incredibly impressive this season. They are the team with the most shots (743), shots on target (290), Expected Goals (95.4), goals (107), and touches in the opponent's box (1318) in this Eredivisie campaign. And since Opta has been analyzing the Eredivisie in full detail since the 2010/11 season, no team has averaged as many shots per game as PSV in the current Eredivisie season (23.2).
Top scorer Luuk de Jong
PSV currently stands at 107 goals and could become the fifth team with more than a hundred goals in an Eredivisie season this century, after Ajax in 2009/10 (106), 2018/19 (119), and 2020/21 (102), and PSV in 2012/13 (103). These goals were scored by nineteen different players, with only in 2021/22 did the Eindhoven team have more different goal scorers in an Eredivisie season (22 - excluding own goals).
Luuk de Jong - the club's top scorer with 27 goals - stands out the most. The 33-year-old captain has shown that he hasn't lost his touch and knows the Eredivisie like the back of his hand. He is the second player with at least three championship seasons in the Eredivisie with at least twenty goals (20 goals in 2014/15, 26 in 2015/16, and 27 in 2023/24), after Johan Cruijff (4 times with Ajax). Additionally, he is the fourth player to score at least 25 goals in at least four Eredivisie seasons. Kees Kist (5 times), former PSV player Ruud Geels, and the legendary Mister PSV Willy van der Kuijlen (both 4) preceded him.
Joey Veerman
PSV's striker couldn't have achieved these performances this season without midfielder Joey Veerman. The midfielder created 118 chances for teammates in this Eredivisie season, almost fifty more than the second-placed player on this list. The last PSV player to create more chances in a single league season was Balázs Dzsudzsák in 2010/11 (123). Veerman is even the player with the most chances created for his teammates in the top-6 European leagues this season.

For the fourth consecutive Eredivisie season, Joey Veerman provided at least ten assists (10 in 2020/21, 11 in 2021/22, 10 in 2022/23, and 13 in 2023/24). However, the midfielder was not only important with his created chances and assists. This Eredivisie season, he also provided the final pass before the assist for a teammate twelve times. The only player with more pre-assists in an Eredivisie season in the last ten seasons is Hakim Ziyech in 2018/19 (14, Vincent Janssen also had 12 in 2015/16).
Team effort
Both Luuk de Jong (February 2024) and Joey Veerman (November 2023) were rightfully named Eredivisie Player of the Month this season. Despite the individual successes of these playmakers, PSV's championship is undoubtedly a team effort.
Johan Bakayoko was also honored twice as Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month (October and November 2023), and apart from one month, there were consistently PSV players in the Eredivisie Team of the Month:
- August 2023 (1): Yorbe Vertessen
- September 2023 (3): Luuk de Jong, Joey Veerman, and Noa Lang
- October 2023 (2): Joey Veerman and Johan Bakayoko
- November 2023 (5): Joey Veerman, Johan Bakayoko, Sergiño Dest, André Ramalho, and Jordan Teze
- December 2023 (2): Olivier Boscagli and Sergiño Dest
- January 2024 (2): Luuk de Jong and Sergiño Dest
- February 2024 (2): Luuk de Jong and Sergiño Dest
Additionally, goalkeeper Walter Benítez achieved the most clean sheets (18), Olivier Boscagli made the most interceptions (60), and Luuk de Jong provided the most assists (14) and shots (104).
The Eredivisie congratulates all PSV supporters on the championship.
