For some time now, the question has not been whether PSV would win the Eredivisie title, but when. Today, the Eindhoven club became only the fourth in history to be crowned champions without kicking a ball themselves, following PSV in 1987/'88, Ajax in 1997/'98, and AZ in 2008/'09. Peter Bosz claimed the title as head coach for the third season in a row. PSV's 27th league championship will hold a very special place in the record books.
Every title has its own story. What will define this one is how early it was decided. April 5 is now the earliest date a champion has ever been crowned in the Eredivisie. The previous record was also held by PSV, who sealed the title on April 8 during the 1977/78 season.
The championship is no reason for PSV to ease off. The club still has a chance to finish the season with the largest winning margin ever recorded. The current record stands at seventeen points, achieved on four different seasons. That is also exactly their current lead over second-placed Feyenoord.

Third consecutive title for Bosz
A third title in a row is also a third championship for manager Peter Bosz. That places him alongside Kees Rijvers and Phillip Cocu, each with three PSV titles, behind only Guus Hiddink with six. Hiddink remains the only coach to have achieved three consecutive titles at PSV, between 1987 and 1989.
Earlier this season, Bosz extended his contract at PSV, giving him the chance next year to become only the second manager ever to win four consecutive titles. So far, only Frank de Boer has managed that feat, with Ajax between 2010/11 and 2013/14.

Eight players in the current squad (with at least 90 minutes of playing time) have been part of all three consecutive championship-winning seasons. Guus Til has made the most appearances, while Joey Veerman leads the way in total minutes played.

The 100-goal mark
Despite their commanding lead, PSV have shown little sign of taking their foot off the gas. They have set the longest ever away winning streak in the Eredivisie this season. 16 matches in total, five of which came in the previous campaign.
PSV's matches have also been consistently high-scoring. In 25 of their 29 games, they scored at least twice. In the five remaining fixtures, the club needs eighteen more goals to reach the hundred-goal mark for the third season running. Only Ajax have ever scored a hundred or more goals in three consecutive Eredivisie seasons, between 1981 and 1984. Knowing Peter Bosz, he will want to give the fans plenty more to enjoy in the weeks ahead.
How many more records can PSV break in what is already a historic season?
Congratulations
