Peter Houtman has to step down as the stadium announcer for Feyenoord due to illness

Stadium announcer and Feyenoord club icon Peter Houtman has announced that he will have to stop his duties at the end of the current season. Houtman is suffering from Alzheimer's and wants to spend more time with his terminally ill wife. The Feyenoord legend made this announcement today in a statement released by the Rotterdam club.

Peter Houtman, on Feyenoord’s channels: "It is with a heavy heart that I have had to decide to step down as stadium announcer after this season. I have recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Although the disease is still in its early stages, its progression is difficult to predict. Feyenoord is deeply in my heart, and both the club and the supporters deserve the very best. Therefore, I feel it is appropriate to step aside."

"Additionally, my wife is also ill, and unfortunately, her illness is incurable. The time we have left together, we want to use to make as many of our plans as possible a reality. During this period, we want to fully enjoy each other’s company and the time we have with our loved ones. I kindly ask everyone to respect our personal situation and refrain from contacting us for questions or interviews. We greatly appreciate this."

Thank you for allowing me to be your announcer for 27 years, after my football career, my time as a youth coach, and 10 years at Feyenoord TV.

"Although I am stepping down from my role as stadium announcer, Feyenoord will always be a part of me. I will continue to closely follow our wonderful club and, as much as possible, attend matches at De Kuip with my sons."

"Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the club and the loyal supporters. Feyenoord has been an inseparable part of my life since my youth, and the fans have given this bond a golden edge. Thank you for all the beautiful and special moments and memories. And thank you for allowing me to be your announcer for 27 years, after my football career, my time as a youth coach, and 10 years at Feyenoord TV," said Houtman.

The Eredivisie CV wishes Peter Houtman and his family much strength during this time.
