Oscar Fraulo named Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month for the first time

The Danish midfielder began his professional career at FC Midtjylland before transferring to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2022. In the summer of 2023, Fraulo joined FC Utrecht on loan, where he made a solid impact last season with three goals and four assists across 35 matches. This season, he’s again on loan from the German club, but FC Utrecht has secured an option to buy the midfielder.

In October, FC Utrecht secured wins against RKC Waalwijk (3-2) and FC Groningen (0-1) but recently suffered a home loss to Feyenoord (0-2). The 20-year-old Dane stood out offensively, creating six chances from open-play and achieving an 86.3% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half. Defensively, he also made a strong impact, averaging 7.2 ball recoveries per 90 minutes.

As part of the award, the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month receives a cheque of €2,500 from the VriendenLoterij for the FC Utrecht Foundation, the club’s community branch. Additionally, €5,000 is donated to the Johan Cruyff Foundation to support social projects.

Oscar Fraulo is the first FC Utrecht player to be named Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month. Previously, other FC Utrecht players like Sam Lammers (April 2024), Taylor Booth (November 2022), Adam Maher (October 2019), and Zakaria Labyad (November 2017) won the Eredivisie Player of the Month award.

The selection of the Eredivisie Player of the Month, the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month, and the Eredivisie Team of the Month is based on Opta statistics and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also contribute to the selection of the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. These annual awards are presented at the end of the season during the Eredivisie Awards. The monthly selections are an initiative of the Eredivisie CV in collaboration with ESPN, the Johan Cruyff Foundation, and VriendenLoterij.
