On Monday evening, the Eredivisie Awards were presented during a festive show at DeFabrique in Utrecht. Orkun Kökcü (Feyenoord) and Fenna Kalma were chosen as the best players, while PSV's Xavi Simons and Esmee Brugts were awarded as the best talents.
Orkun Kökcü was voted as the best player by the team captains
During the award show, which was broadcast live on ESPN and hosted by Jan Joost van Gangelen and Fresia Cousiño Arias, Orkun Kökcü clinched the top prize in the Eredivisie: the Turkish international was named Eredivisie Player of the Year by the 18 team captains. The former Feyenoord captain received the award from his family. Kökcü left the reigning champions this past summer after five seasons to join Benfica.
Once again, Fenna Kalma wins two awards
Fenna Kalma once again achieved a double victory at the Eredivisie Awards. The 24-year-old top scorer from FC Twente won both the top scorer award (33 goals) and the best player award last year. This year, Kalma secured the top scorer title once more (30 goals) and also won the Azerion Women's Eredivisie Player of the Year award for the second season in a row. Kalma received both awards while at a training camp with her new club, VfL Wolfsburg
PSV's Xavi Simons and Esmee Brugts were named the best talents
The 20-year-old Xavi Simons and Esmee Brugts, both from PSV, were selected as the Johan Cruijff Talents of the Year by coaches in the Eredivisie and Azerion Women's Eredivisie. Simons received the award from his former coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy. Esmee Brugts, who currently plays for FC Barcelona, received the award from 105-time international Stefanie van der Gragt. Both Simons and Brugts will have the opportunity, supported by the Johan Cruyff Foundation, to establish a Cruyff Court at a location of their choice.
For Simons, who is playing for RB Leipzig since this summer, it was his second award of the evening. The Dutch international, along with Tasos Douvikas (FC Utrecht), received the Willy van der Kuylen Trophy earlier in the evening. Both Simons and Douvikas scored 19 goals last season, making them joint top scorers in the Eredivisie, succeeding Sébastien Haller. These two forwards will face each other directly in the Netherlands - Greece international match this Thursday.
Louis van Gaal received the Eredivisie Oeuvre Award
The Eredivisie Oeuvre Award, an honor created to celebrate personalities who have been of great value to Dutch football, was awarded to Louis van Gaal. The 72-year-old successful coach received the award on behalf of his former colleague and friend, Michael van Praag.
Michiel Kramer was awarded the Goal of the Year award. The RKC Waalwijk striker scored from 40 meters out in the match against Go Ahead Eagles. Finally, the Football Gives Prize (Voetbal Geeft Prijs) was awarded to the three clubs with the most innovative and impactful community projects. FC Emmen won the top prize (€50,000), followed by SC Cambuur (€30,000) and RKC Waalwijk (€20,000). Voetbal Geeft (Football Gives) is an initiative of the VriendenLoterij, in collaboration with Eredivisie CV and ESPN.
