The edivisie launches a new season on Tuesday November 17th. The EA SPORTS FIFA 21 league, organized by the Eredivisie in cooperation with strategic partner DreamHack Sports Games and the 18 Eredivisie clubs, is played online and will be broadcast on the edivisie YouTube channel.
Players no longer play in a TV studio, but from their home or their club’s stadium to respect the governmental Corona measures. The 36 EA SPORTS FIFA 21 players battle for a total sum of € 100,000 in prize money, as well as seats in the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series European Playoffs or Play-ins and a spot in the new international team: E_Oranje. FBTO remains an Official Partner of the edivisie for yet another season.
A match round every Tuesday and Wednesday
Every Tuesday and Wednesday nine matches are played: one match round per day. For the first time in its four-year history, edivisie matches are not played from a TV studio, but fully online. Playing from their homes or their club’s stadiums the players will represent their eredivisie club. Matches are broadcast on the edivisie YouTube channel from 5.45pm to 9.15pm every Tuesday and Wednesday. The eDivisie Finals, of which the last edition on February 15th of this year was a ground breaking event with close to 2,000 spectators, will take place on Sunday January 17th 2021, providing the governmental measures allow it. eDivisie Season IV will start in March 2021 and end in May 2021.
More to play for
The stakes have become a lot higher compared to last season. Next to a spectacular amount of prize money (€ 100,000) the players of the two best performing edivisie teams qualify for the new international squad of the Dutch Football Association (KNVB): E_Oranje.
Also, players of the best performing edivisie teams have the chance to win seats that guarantee a place in either the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series European Playoffs or Play-ins.
FBTO remains official partner
Despite the harsh economic times, insurance company FBTO remains an Official Partner of the edivisie having started their partnership last January. FBTO is visible during edivisie matches and will offer the edivisie community several relevant Instagram formats throughout the year
Participating players
Esports is becoming more and more of a professional sport, and this is shown by the amount of transfers by edivisie players. Dennis Verhoeven moves from VVV-Venlo to PSV, Ajax persuaded Tjardo Paliama to join them at the expense of Vitesse and Levy Frederique swaps his FC Groningen jersey for an FC Emmen one. The Belgian Gilles Bernard leaves KRC Genk and will join AZ in the new edivisie season. Next to Bernard also Levi de Weerd (Vitesse), Rick Dame (ADO Den Haag), Toon Buné (FC Emmen), Jesper Maes and Lars de Jong (both VVV-Venlo) are newcomers in the edivisie.
