Myron Boadu, from AZ, has had a fantastic month. The team from Alkmaar beat FC Emmen (0-1), sc Heerenveen (3-1), VVV-Venlo (1-4) and Feyenoord (4-2) and climbed from fifth place to the top 3 in the Eredivisie. In these four matches, Myron Boadu showed off his killer instinct; the 20-year old player from Amsterdam saw all of his five shots at goal result in a goal being scored.
The highlight was last Sunday: Boadu, at just 20 years and 45 days old, became the second youngest player to score a hat-trick against Feyenoord, after Marco van Basten (18 years and 322 days old in 1983). Since his debut in August 2018, Boadu has scored 28 goals in the Eredivisie.
In February, in addition to goals, Boadu provided one assist, 23 ball contacts in the opposition’s sixteen metre area and was awarded one Man of the Match prize.
As in previous months, the scores for Player of the Month are drawn up for players objectively based on over 60 statistics. Only players who have played at least two-thirds of the total number of game minutes are eligible for the prize. Something that has changed since January, however, is that fans’ votes submitted through the Man of the Match selection are now also included in the count.
The Eredivisie Player of the Month award is an initiative of Eredivisie CV in collaboration with ESPN and KPN, main sponsor of the Eredivisie.
