Relegation-threatened FC Twente welcomed league leaders PSV Eindhoven on Saturday 27th January.
The home side were without a win at the De Grolsch Veste in their last five matches while the visitors had won six of their last eight on the road.
PSV immediately set about preserving that record and took the lead after just four minutes. Steven Bergwijn lofted his left-wing cross to the back post and Hirving Lozano capitalised on goalkeeper Joel Drommel's hesitation to head home.
FC Twente pressed for an equaliser and Ousama Assaidi was denied after his effort was unconvincingly palmed away by Jeroen Zoet.
Substitute Mounir El Hamdaoui volleyed just over the bar just five minutes following his introduction after being picked out by Haris Vuckic.
PSV should have doubled their advantage with just two minutes of regular time remaining when Jorrit Hendrix raced clear. However, after rounding Drommel, he somehow fired wide with the goal gaping.
Defender Santiago Arias eventually doubled PSV's lead in the second minute of stoppage time when he combined with Mauro Junior before slotting home.
The win sees PSV move up to 52 points, eight clear of second-placed Ajax while FC Twente remain in the relegation play-off places with 16 points.
