PSV Eindhoven maintained their 100 percent record in the Eredivisie on Saturday (3rd November), as they beat 10-man Vitesse 1-0 at Philips Stadion thanks to a second half goal from Luuk de Jong.
Vitesse played much of the game with 10-men after Danilho Doekhi was shown a straight red card for a foul on Hirving Lozano in the 14th minute.
Not that PSV found chances easy to come by. A low cross from Angelino was almost turned into his own net by Max Clark, but Vitesse goalkeeper Eduardo saved smartly.
And the Portuguese was then exposed by a sloppy pass from Martin Odegaard, but this time he stood up to the oncoming Steven Bergwijn before saving with a foot.
0-0 at the break - and in the second half, Vitesse could have gone ahead themselves.
From a ball over the top, Oussama Darfalou was quickest to react and his shot was fended away by Jeroen Zoet.
In the end, one goal was enough to decide the contest, and it went to PSV in the 69th minute. Lozana cut in from the left before sending the ball into the six yard box and Luuk de Jong was on hand to tuck the ball home.
Relief all round for the home team and its fans.
