Bernt Klaverboer named Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month for the first time
Bernt Klaverboer has been named Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month for the first time. The 20-year-old goalkeeper of sc Heerenveen received the award for his performances in March.
Solid between the sticks
Klaverboer and sc Heerenveen had an excellent month. They won away at Excelsior Rotterdam (1-2) and Telstar (3-0), and drew against third-placed N.E.C. Nijmegen (2-2).
Klaverboer made more saves than any other goalkeeper in March, with 18. That translates to a save percentage of 85.7 percent. Against Telstar, he kept his third clean sheet of the season.
The Frisian-born keeper has played 23 matches this season, making him the youngest goalkeeper with at least ten appearances. He has also played more matches for sc Heerenveen before his 21st birthday than any goalkeeper before him. His strong form has once again earned him a call-up to Jong Oranje.
First monthly award
This is Bernt Klaverboer's first Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award. He is the seventh sc Heerenveen player to win the prize, following Denzel Dumfries (August 2017), Michel Vlap (October 2018), Sam Lammers (January 2019), Chidera Ejuke (September 2019), Joey Veerman (February 2020), and Sydney van Hooijdonk (April 2022).
As part of the award, Klaverboer receives a €2,500 cheque on behalf of the Friends Lottery (VriendenLoterij) for UDIROS, the amateur club where the goalkeeper began his football career. In addition, €5,000 will be donated to social projects run by the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
