Kick-off Eredivisie Season 2025/26

The ball will start rolling again in the Eredivisie on Friday 8 August 2025, with the opening match Fortuna Sittard vs Go Ahead Eagles. The game in Limburg kicks off at 20:00 and marks the start of an exciting new football season.

The impossible puzzle has been solved

Jan de Jong, CEO of Eredivisie CV and member of the professional football competition board, on the creation of the match schedule: "The impossible puzzle with countless pieces has been solved once again! The match schedule for the 2025/’26 Eredivisie season is here. We fed 25 pages full of wishes and requirements, possibilities and impossibilities into a computer in Barcelona, which used AI to come up with something wonderful. Nowhere in Europe is it as complicated as in the Netherlands. Sending a rocket to the moon almost seems easier."

"The most important thing is a fair and balanced schedule for everyone. But we also support the clubs playing in Europe, ensure a proper winter break for much-needed rest, and give the promoted clubs an extra week to prepare their pitches among a thousand other things. In short: all the ingredients are there for another remarkable season. Now it’s up to the clubs in the Eredivisie to turn it into a main course to savour!"

Traditional top 3 kicks off at home

On Saturday evening, Feyenoord will play at home. Robin van Persie’s team takes on NAC Breda at 18:45 in De Kuip. Defending champions PSV close out the Saturday with a home match against Sparta Rotterdam. The Eindhoven side has fond memories of recent encounters with Sparta: in both the 2023/’24 and 2024/’25 seasons, they secured the league title during matches against the Rotterdammers. Ajax starts their campaign on Sunday 10 August at 14:30 with a home game against Telstar.

Away games for the promoted sides

All three promoted teams start the season with an away fixture, allowing an extra week to prepare their natural grass pitches for the first home match. Excelsior is first to kick off, playing away at N.E.C. Nijmegen in the Goffertstadion on Saturday 9 August at 16:45. It marks both the Kralingers’ return to the Eredivisie and the debut of Dick Schreuder as head coach of the Nijmegen club.

Later that evening (20:00), FC Volendam begins their campaign on the road as well. Rick Kruys' side travels to Friesland to face sc Heerenveen, a special match for striker Henk Veerman, who previously spent several seasons in the blue and white of the home side. Telstar, the third promoted team, visits Ajax on Sunday in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. A historic moment for the White Lions, who make their first Eredivisie appearance since April 1978.

First Klassieker and thrilling season finale

The first Klassieker of the 2025/26 Eredivisie season is scheduled for Sunday 14 December, when Ajax and Feyenoord clash in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The closing stages of the league promise to be dramatic: unlike previous years, the final three matchdays are packed with top fixtures. Matchday 32 features 'De Topper' between Ajax and PSV. A week later, during the penultimate round with all games kicking off simultaneously, Ajax hosts FC Utrecht while Feyenoord welcomes AZ in De Kuip. On the final and decisive matchday (round 34), PSV wraps up the season at home against FC Twente.

The full provisional schedule for the 2025/26 Eredivisie will be published on Wednesday 18 June.
