Joey Veerman named Eredivisie Player of the Month for August
Joey Veerman was named Eredivisie Player of the Month for August. The 25-year-old PSV midfielder topped the ranking, based on Opta statistics and fan votes.
PSV have made a flying start to the season once again. After four matches, Peter Bosz's side remain unbeaten at the top of the table with 12 points and are the only Eredivisie club yet to drop points. The Eindhoven team secured comfortable wins against RKC Waalwijk (5-1), Heracles Almelo (1-3), Almere City FC (1-7), and Go Ahead Eagles (3-0). With a goal difference of +15, PSV demonstrated their dominance throughout August.
Successful in passing
Statistically, Joey Veerman was the standout player in Eindhoven. With an Opta score of 87.8 and two selections as KPN Man of the Match, the midfielder comfortably outperformed both his teammates and other Eredivisie players. In August, Veerman provided two assists against both RKC Waalwijk and Almere City, while also scoring against Go Ahead Eagles. This puts him joint leader in assists and goals (5).
Unsurprisingly, Veerman's passing was a key element of his game. He created the most chances in the Eredivisie (16, four more than second-placed Malik Tillman), delivered the most passes into the penalty area (52), and successfully completed 175 out of 204 passes in the opponent’s half, boasting an 86% passing accuracy.

Second monthly award
His excellent form earned him a call-up to the national team, but an injury sustained against Go Ahead Eagles ruled him out of selection. This marks Joey Veerman's second Eredivisie Player of the Month award. The 25-year-old first won the monthly accolade last November.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month, Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month, and Eredivisie Team of the Month are selected based on statistics (Opta) and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also influence the shortlist for the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. These awards, along with those in the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie, will be presented at the Eredivisie Awards at the end of the season.
