Rene Hake has stepped down as Head Coach of FC Twente following their poor start to the 2017/18 Eredivisie season.
The 45-year-old former FC Emmen coach and PEC Zwolle assistant joined Twente in August 2015 and guided the team to a 13th placed finish in his first season before recording a seventh-placed finish last term.
However, with six losses and just two wins this time around, Hake has vacated his post with Twente 15th in the league, with just six points.
He will, however, remain with the club, although his role is yet to be defined with Marino Pusic taking temporary charge of the side.
Director Jan van Halst told the clubs website: "The facts are: eight games, six points. Apart from the results, we see too little growth in the game and lack the conviction. Sunday, against Willem II, was in that respect.
“We are convinced that we will not be in trouble with this player group this season. Together with René, we decided that he will stop as a head coach and continue in another role at the club.
“It’s a tough decision, especially for Rene himself. The importance of FC Twente is paramount and he wants a turnaround.”
