First matchday of the Eredivisie season 2024/25 announced
The new Eredivisie season kicks off on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 8:00 PM in the Euroborg, with newly promoted teams FC Groningen and NAC Breda facing each other. On Saturday, KNVB cup winner Feyenoord will play its first match against the other promoted team, Willem II, at 4:30 PM, Champions PSV will take on RKC Waalwijk later that evening at 7:00 PM. Ajax and sc Heerenveen will wrap up the first matchday on Sunday evening at 4:45 PM.
The newly promoted FC Groningen and NAC Breda will have the honor of opening the new Eredivisie season on Friday, August 9. FC Groningen secured their return to the Eredivisie after just one year by defeating Roda JC spectacularly on the last matchday of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. NAC Breda, finishing eighth, clinched the final promotion ticket after an impressive series of matches in the Keuken Kampioen Play-Offs.
Saturday features four matches. KNVB Cup winner Feyenoord will host Willem II. The Tilburgers won the Keuken Kampioen Divisie last season, making their return to the top tier after two years. Later that evening, N.E.C. Nijmegen will play FC Twente (6:45 PM), and FC Utrecht will face PEC Zwolle (8:00 PM). Eredivisie Champions PSV will cap off Saturday night with a derby against RKC Waalwijk (9:00 PM).
On Sunday, the Eredivisie starts with a notable fixture between Sparta Rotterdam and Heracles Almelo (12:15 PM). At 2:30 PM, both Almere City FC vs. AZ and Go Ahead Eagles vs. Fortuna Sittard will take place. Ajax will conclude the first matchday with a home game against sc Heerenveen (4:45 PM).

Tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM, the complete draft schedule for the 2024/25 Eredivisie season will be published on our website. This draft schedule is coordinated between the competition board (KNVB, Eredivisie CV, and Coöperatie Eerste Divisie), all professional football clubs, ESPN, local authorities, and the Supporters Collective Netherlands. A few days later, the schedule will be finalized.
