Filip Krastev named Eredivisie Player of the Month for January

PEC Zwolle had a strong start to the second half of the season. Despite a narrow defeat against N.E.C. Nijmegen (0-1), Johnny Jansen’s team secured convincing victories over PSV (3-1) and Fortuna Sittard (1-4). With 23 points from 20 matches, Zwolle currently sits in joint 11th place.

Filip Krastev was in exceptional form last month. The Bulgarian was directly involved in four goals (three goals, one assist), more than any other player in the Eredivisie. Additionally, Krastev regained possession 22 times (22 ball recoveries) and completed five successful dribbles. In the match against PSV, he put his team ahead twice, earning him the KPN Man of the Match title.

With his outstanding performances and decisive goals, Krastev became the standout player of January, an achievement now rewarded with the title of Eredivisie Player of the Month. The 23-year-old midfielder is the second PEC Zwolle player to win the award this season; in November, Dylan Mbayo was named Eredivisie Player of the Month. Krastev triumphed in the voting over players such as Elías Már Ómarsson, Fabian de Keijzer, and Shunsuke Mito.

The election for the Eredivisie Player of the Month, the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month, and the Eredivisie Team of the Month is based on Opta statistics and votes from football fans (KPN Man of the Match). These criteria also play a role in the selection of the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year. These awards are presented at the end of the season during the Eredivisie Awards. The monthly elections are an initiative of Eredivisie CV in collaboration with ESPN, VriendenLoterij, and the Cruyff Foundation.
