Feyenoord began the second half of the season with three points against sc Heerenveen on Saturday evening. A Luis Sinisterra goal and two Nicolai Jørgensen strikes secured a 3-1 win at De Kuip. The win extends Dick Advocaat’s unbeaten Eredivisie record as club coach.
The first competitive match of 2020 did not get off to the best of starts, but Feyenoord did manage to score twice in less than 20 minutes. sc Heerenveen were unable to convert their chances, whereas the home side were clinical with theirs.
Spectacular opener
Luis Sinisterra got the breakthrough. The Colombian scored with a spectacular effort – a half bicycle kick – from a Steven Berghuis cross. Nicolai Jørgensen doubled the lead on 17 minutes with a well-placed shot into the far corner.
His third Eredivisie goal of the season was a confidence boost for Jørgensen, whose second came back on 10 November. He had another one before the break. Feyenoord’s third of the evening came from his head as he beat keeper Warner Hahn despite facing the wrong way.
Joey Veerman grabbed one back for the visitors after a mistake by Justin Bijlow, who started as Feyenoord’s number one after Kenneth Vermeer’s mid-season switch to Los Angeles FC. But there was no way back for the Frisians, as Feyenoord shut the game down in the second half.
Bijlow saves well
Hicham Faik went closest with a chip towards the top right-hand corner. Bijlow was attentive, though, pawing the ball away athletically. At the other end, while not pulling up any trees, Feyenoord created some chances of their own.
Hahn was having none of it though, denying Jørgensen, Orkun Kökcü, Steven Berghuis and substitute Sam Larsson, who played well off the bench. So the game ended 3-1, with Feyenoord claiming another three Eredivisie points.
Two away days
Feyenoord now hit the road as they battle for honours on two fronts. A trip to Fortuna Sittard on Tuesday in the KNVB Cup is followed by an away match at Heracles Almelo on Saturday in the Eredivisie (Feyenoord.nl).
