FC Utrecht has strengthened its squad with Miliano Jonathans. The 20-year-old forward joins this winter from Vitesse and has signed a 3.5-year contract. The winger is excited about his new adventure. “FC Utrecht is the ideal next step for me.”
Seventeen matches, ten goals, and four assists. This season, Jonathans has been the standout sensation of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. In recent months, scouts from both domestic and international clubs have flocked to Stadion GelreDome to see him in action. However, FC Utrecht had been tracking the forward for much longer. Jonathans, who moved from Arnhemse Boys to Vitesse at just ten years old, has long been regarded as a rising star.
In recent months, talks between Jonathans, his management, and FC Utrecht gained momentum. The result is that the winger will join Head Coach Ron Jans’ squad in January. “I’m super happy to be playing for this amazing club,” said Miliano Jonathans on FC Utrecht’s official website.
Jonathans is a true Arnhem native. He grew up in the Malburgen-West neighborhood, right across from Stadion GelreDome. The forward describes himself as someone who speaks his mind. “I come from a working-class neighborhood in Arnhem. I love that honesty, that directness. In that sense, a club like FC Utrecht suits me perfectly. It’s very professional but also a club of the people. I can’t wait to play in front of the Bunnikside.”
“At the same time, I’m a real family man,” he continues. “I value connections with people, and they have to be genuine. FC Utrecht was immediately very personal in their approach. Jordy Zuidam and Ron Jans convinced me with their enthusiasm and the sporting vision. FC Utrecht is an ambitious club, and I want to be part of that. For me, FC Utrecht is the ideal next step. I’m very grateful to Vitesse, but now it’s time to prove myself again in the Eredivisie.”
Jonathans feels a lot of confidence from the club and says he can’t wait to report to the FC Utrecht Topsportcentrum in Overvecht at the beginning of January. What can fans expect from him in the new year? “I’m a creative left-footer. I love taking on opponents and cutting inside. From there, I can provide a cross or go for goal myself. I also want to entertain the fans who come to the stadium. Skill moves, dribbles. Write it down: I’m a real football enthusiast.”
