Eran Zahavi named as Eredivisie Player of the Month in March

PSV has had a fantastic month. At the beginning of March, the team won against Heracles Almelo (3-1), after which coach Roger Schmidt's team was also too strong for FC Utrecht (0-1) and Fortuna Sittard (5-0). With seven rounds of matches remaining and only two points difference with leaders Ajax, the battle for the Dutch championship is still wide open.

The Israeli international scored in all three of his matches in March and provided one assist in the match against Fortuna Sittard. Zahavi shot thirteen times in March, seven of which were on target. He also made 27 ball touches in the enemy's penalty area, created seven chances and was twice named as KPN Man of the Match.

PSV's striker has been on form in recent weeks and has showcased his attacking qualities on several occasions. He has scored seven times in his last six games (all competitions), one more than in his previous thirty matches for PSV. In addition, Zahavi shot at goal fourteen times in the Eredivisie in the first half of the season (twelve matches). In 2022, the striker has already shot at goal twelve times (in seven matches). He also recorded the same number of ball touches n the enemy's penalty area this calendar year compared to the first half of the season (both 43).

This is Eran Zahavi’s first Eredivisie Player of the Month award. Earlier this season, his teammates Bruma (August) and Ibrahim Sangaré (November) won the monthly prize. In the five-year history of the Eredivisie Player of the Month, this is the ninth time a PSV player has won the award.

With a score of 95.7, Zahavi managed to stay ahead of Sébastien Haller (93.2), Jesper Karlsson (91.0) and Luuk Brouwers (88.3), among others, in the monthly standings. In addition to the award, presented by ESPN reporter Milan van Dongen, the player also receives his own upgraded Eredivisie Player of the Month-card in FIFA 22. This is a big upgrade for Zahavi: from an average rating of 80 to 86.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month and Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month Awards are based on statistics (StatsPerform) and votes from football fans, cast via the KPN Man of the Match election (ESPN). These elements also count towards the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruyff Talent of the Year Awards, which are presented during the Eredivisie Awards at the end of the season 2021/22.
