Brian Brobbey is Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month in May
Brian Brobbey has been named the Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month for the first time. In the last three matches of the season, the Ajax forward was the best-performing player (U21) according to the statistics and football fans’ votes.
In May, the 20-year-old forward played a draw with Ajax against AZ (2-2) and Vitesse (2-2) and won the championship game against sc Heerenveen with an impressive 5-0. Brobbey scored in all three games, bringing his total to seven goals this season. Despite his injury, he managed to score an average of one goal every 57 minutes.
The Ajax player is delighted with his first individual prize: ,,Of course I’m happy and proud to receive this award. I felt I was already doing well, scoring my goals. As a team, we did a good job to become champions again. I’m getting this award individually and that’s nice, but I couldn’t have won it without my teammates. This is a nice way to end the football season", said Brobbey.
Cheques for AFC and the Johan Cruyff Foundation
In addition to the monthly award, the Ajax forward also received two cheques on behalf of the VriendenLoterij (Friends Lottery). One cheque for € 2,500 will go to Amsterdam amateur club AFC, where Brobbey started his football career. The forward will also donate a cheque for €5,000 to a project of the Johan Cruyff Foundation, which will go to purchasing sporting equipment for children with physical disabilities in and around Amsterdam.

These elements - along with votes from the 18 captains and 18 coaches - also count towards the Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year Awards, which are presented during the Eredivisie Awards at the end of the season 2021/22.
