Ajax picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Feyenoord

Ajax picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over 10-man Feyenoord in the Eredivisie on Sunday (28th October), with an own goal from goalkeeper Justin Bijlow opening the scoring.

Ajax and Feyenoord clashed on Sunday, with the two clubs eight and ten points off the top of the table respectively before kick-off. Both are chasing PSV Eindhoven, who continued the perfect start to their campaign on Saturday (27th October), beating Groningen 2-1 for a tenth win in as many Eredivisie games this season.

An early incident at the Johan Cruyff Arena handed Ajax a one-man advantage for the vast majority of the game. A crude challenge from Jeremiah St. on Nicolas Tagliafico in the fifth minute resulted in a yellow card, but after consulting VAR (Video Assistant Referee), referee Bjorn Kuipers rescinded the booking and instead produced his red card.

Misfortune struck the visitors again midway through the first half, when goalkeeper Justin Bijlow let a shot from Frenkie de Jong roll through his legs. Bijlow turned and stopped the ball on the goal line, but his momentum carried it over and the own goal gifted Ajax a 1-0 lead.

The home side doubled their lead five minutes before half-time, with Bijlow beaten again as Hakim Ziyech tried his luck with a shot through a crowd of players.

Ajax wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win in the 80th minute, with Dusan Tadic left unmarked to head in a cross from substitute David Neres.

A fourth successive Eredivisie victory lifted Erik ten Hag's side up to within five points of Eindhoven, who beat title rivals Ajax 3-0 before the start of the 'Amsterdammers'' current winning run.
