Ajax remained five points behind Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven after they thrashed AZ Alkmaar 5-0 on Sunday.
A five-star - and five-goal - performance from Ajax proved far too much for AZ Alkmaar in Amsterdam on Sunday as Erik ten Hag's side remained five points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Ajax started the scoring early as Donny van de Beek beat the AZ offside trap to score from Dusan Tadic's through ball.
The home side increased their lead three minutes after half-time with a little help from AZ goalkeeper Marco Bizot. Bizot spilled a Hakim Ziyech shot straight into the path of Kasper Dolberg to put away the rebound.
AZ helped Ajax to their third goal as well. Daley Blind's shot was deflected into his own net by the unfortunate Ricardo van Rhijn.
There was no doubt about Ajax's fourth goal and it was all the work of one man as a brilliant run down the right from Ziyech saw him slip his marker, turn inside another defender and check back before shooting past Bizot.
There was time for Tadic to collect a well-deserved fifth goal, but the result had been decided long before.
Ajax remained second with AZ in sixth, seven points behind their opponents.
