Ajax crush Heerenveen with 4-0 win

Ajax thrashed Heerenveen 4-0 at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on Saturday (20th October) to remain within five points of Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Having watched their Eredivisie title rivals PSV Eindhoven win 6-0 earlier on Saturday, Ajax delivered a strong response with an emphatic victory of their own at sc Heerenveen.

The 4-0 win keeps Ajax within five points of PSV, who have won all nine of their games this season.

Lasse Schone opened the scoring for the visitors after only three minutes with a spectacular long-range effort.

Hakim Ziyech doubled the advantage shortly before half-time, with a shot that Heerenveen goalkeeper Warner Hahn should have kept out.

Heerenveen were left aggrieved seven minutes after the break when Dusan Tadic converted a penalty they felt was harshly awarded.

Captain Daniel Hoegh made contact with Kasper Dolberg in the area, prompting referee Pol van Boekel to point to the spot.

Dolberg then got a goal of his own in the 56th minute, converting from close range after a sublime piece of skill from Ziyech in the build up.

Heerenveen are 12th in the table with 10 points.
