Playing football for your entire life, this is what OldStars Walking Football aims to do. This social initiative to activate and reintegrate 60 years old people into (local) society began in 2013 as a pilot of the Eredivisie CV, the National Elderly Fund (Ouderenfonds) and VriendenLoterij. ADO Den Haag, FC Groningen, PSV and RKC Waalwijk were the first clubs to join in, but now OldStars Walking Football is possible with almost all professional football organizations. In addition, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has been initiated in this initiative, which offers this new football form by hundreds of amateur clubs.

The Eredivisie CV, Elderly Fund (Ouderenfonds) and KNVB consider it important to keep people healthy and to communicate with each other. In the case of OldStars, that's 60-plus. We believe that we can make a difference by using football as a means of achieving social goals. Football is a team sport and, by definition, already means more social contacts.

With OldStars we hit hands together to get six-legged (back) to the football. By playing football together, these 60-plus people get in touch and stay fit. The social component of football plays an important part in this target group. Football is thus used as a means of discussing and addressing issues that this target group encounters (health problems, no active social role, few social contacts).

Participants of OldStars football walks according to the walking football principle, which allows them to prevent injuries. There are some other rules: played in a small field, six to six and no goalkeeper. OldStars is a 20-week program. It starts with a fittest (zero measurement), after 20 weeks, a name is followed and the cycle ends with the OldStars championship. The club provides training and guidance on its own sporting facilities. Exercises are started with a cup of coffee or tea. Thus, the participants learn to get to know each other better and create a "man under one" feeling. But of course OldStars is walking football for men and women.

There are now OldStar teams at the Eredivisie, First Division (Jupiler League) and amateur clubs. A complete and up-to-date overview of all OldStars Walking Football teams can be found at
